- Werner’s authorship is highly questionable due to the compositional technique of the work. Winkler-Klement (2013, p. 96) suggests that Franz Nikolaus Novotný may be the actual composer, and that this work is identical to the now missing shelfmark A-Ed F 23, as recorded in the inventory of 1837.

Benedictus Dominus Deus Israel
| Identifiers | |
| ARK | ark:68748/gw1d5l1 |
| Sources | |
| Notes | This work is probably identical to the Benedictus Dominus currently attributed to Jan Dismas Zelenka (ZWV 206; see incipit). Werner may have been engaged in Jacob Heinrich von Flemmings musical ensemble in the early 1720s, which may point towards a connection to Dresden (Paczkowski, 2019). Indeed, Zelenka’s inventarium (Zelenka, 1739, fol. 56) mentions a work entitled “Benedictus Dominus Deus Israel a 4” (G minor, instruments ad libitum) by a Werner. Previously, Zelenka’s authorship has been considered as highly likely, given the provenance of the source in CZ-Pkřiž (XXXV D 79, RISM 550255328) and the dedication sigla therein (Vojtěšková & Kohlhase, 1991). While no source for the Benedictus is extant in D-Dl, the Catalogo della Musica di Chiesa actually contains an incipit for ZWV 206 in the section “Musica senza Nome dell’Autore” (Catalogo, ca. 1780, p. 95). Hence, there must once have been a source in Dresden that could not be attributed to Zelenka when the Catalogo was assembled – maybe because it was not signed with Zelenka’s name. Thus, it is possible that attribution to Zelenka in the CZ-Pkřiž source may have happened during creation of this copy – maybe because the source material was even in Zelenka’s hand. |

- This work has probably been attributed to Werner since it is located between two known works by Werner in the collection. However, its compositional technique renders Werner’s authorship improbable.

- The compositional technique of this work rules out Werner as author. James I. Armstrong (personal communication, 2025-09) has pointed out that the attribution “Deutsch” on the wrapper may have resulted from a German work by Werner that was originally stored under the (old) shelfmark 6/137 and later was replaced by the present work.
